The five fulfilment charges that don’t appear on the rate card
The charges 3PLs put in the contract rather than the price list, and the five questions that flush them out before you sign.
Tips & guides
Most 3PLs will not return your call at this size. Here is an honest look at every option a small UK seller actually has, with real numbers.

Short answer: at 100 orders a month a UK seller can pack orders at home, use Amazon FBA, or use a small 3PL with no minimum order volume. Most large 3PLs will not take the account. On Angler Fulfilment’s published rate card, 100 single-item orders cost about £144 a month, or £1.44 an order, before postage and packaging materials, with no minimum, no lock-in and same-day dispatch for orders in by 2pm on a weekday.
Type “UK order fulfilment” into Google and you will find dozens of 3PLs with beautiful websites. Fill in their quote forms as a seller doing 100 orders a month and watch what happens: most never reply, and the ones that do quote a monthly minimum spend, a setup fee in the hundreds, or a polite “come back when you are doing 2,000 a month”.
That is not because your business is too small to matter. It is because most fulfilment warehouses are built around automation lines and account managers whose economics only work at volume. At 100 orders a month you are real, growing and profitable, and you still have exactly four options. Here they all are, including the ones that are not us.
At 100 orders a month you are packing three to four parcels a day, which sounds trivial until you price your own evenings. Call it 15 minutes per order across picking, packing, labelling and the post office run: that is 25 hours a month, plus packaging bought at retail prices and postage bought at counter rates. If your time is worth anything at all, DIY fulfilment usually costs more than outsourcing it, and it is the first thing that stops you growing, because every new order is more of your night gone. For what that looks like once it stops working, Hassan’s story covers a seller whose orders across Amazon, eBay and Shopify started getting mixed up at home.
FBA is genuinely good at what it does. If you sell only on Amazon, it may be the right answer, and we tell sellers that to their faces. The trouble starts when you sell anywhere else: multi-channel fulfilment fees rise sharply, your stock is stuck in a channel-specific system, storage fees ramp aggressively in Q4 exactly when you need space (on Amazon they went from 76p to £1.51 a cubic foot on 1 October), and a suspended listing can strand your entire inventory. FBA is a sales channel’s warehouse, not your warehouse.
The household-name 3PLs run superb operations, for the clients they accept. Typical entry terms are 1,000 to 2,000 orders a month minimum, an onboarding fee, recurring platform charges and a 12-month contract. If you are at 100 orders, you will either be declined or quoted a monthly minimum spend that means paying for volume you do not ship. Huboo’s own website, for example, says “from £1,500 per month”. Who does take small sellers is in eleven UK 3PLs with no minimum orders, compared. Again: not villains, just built for a different customer.
This is the honest pitch. Angler Fulfilment was built specifically for sellers from 100 orders a month upwards, because we think the sellers the big 3PLs turn away are the best clients in e-commerce: small enough to care, growing fast enough to matter.
Numbers, because a fulfilment article without numbers is an advert. On our published rate card, pick & pack at your volume is £1.10 for the first item and 25p per additional item. Postage is charged at our negotiated carrier rates, which are usually cheaper than what you can buy alone. A typical single-item parcel lands at £3.50 to £5.50 all-in including postage. Storage is per pallet, pick bin or box a week, and your first month’s stock stores free.
Here is a whole month at 100 orders with one item each, on the same rate card. It is the 100-order column of the worked example on our pricing page, line by line.
| Line | How it is worked out | Month |
|---|---|---|
| Pick and pack | 100 orders at £1.10 | £110.00 |
| Packaging handling | 15p an order, materials at cost on top | £15.00 |
| Storage | 4 pick bins at 48p a week | £8.40 |
| Returns | 3 units at £2.00 | £6.00 |
| Goods-in | 1 parcel delivery booked in | £5.00 |
| Total | £1.44 an order, before postage | £144.40 |
Postage comes on top. At Royal Mail’s own account price for a Tracked 48 parcel up to 1kg, £3.90 since 5 October 2026, 100 parcels add £390, which puts the month at about £534, or £5.34 an order all in. In your first month storage is free, and in November and December a 20p peak surcharge adds £20. Compare that with 25 hours of your own time and postage bought at the counter. How this sits next to the prices other UK 3PLs publish is in what fulfilment costs per order in the UK.
Really. No minimum order volume, no minimum monthly spend. If you do 80 orders one month, you pay for 80 orders. We are not the only one: here are eleven UK 3PLs with no minimum order volume, compared.
No. Rolling monthly terms with 30 days’ notice and no exit fees. We think a 3PL should keep clients by being good, not by holding stock hostage.
Onboarding starts the day you say yes, and once your stock arrives you can take orders within 3 days. What takes the time is usually preparing your product data properly; our 3PL implementation checklist shows exactly what happens.
Your rate improves automatically: from 1,000 orders a month the first item is 95p and each extra item 22p, and from 3,000 it is 85p and 20p. You will never need to renegotiate to get the volume price.
The short version: at 100 orders a month you are not too small for professional fulfilment; you are just talking to the wrong warehouses. Send us five details and you will have an itemised quote against our published rate card within one working day.
Questions sellers ask at this volume
Yes. Angler Fulfilment takes UK sellers from 100 orders a month upwards with no minimum order volume and no minimum monthly spend, on rolling monthly terms. The only setup cost is a one-off £150 to connect your sales channels.
On Angler Fulfilment's published rate card, pick and pack is £1.10 for the first item at that volume plus 25p per additional item. A month of 100 single-item orders comes to about £144, or £1.44 an order, before postage and packaging materials. A typical single-item parcel lands at £3.50 to £5.50 all in including postage.
FBA works well for Amazon-only sellers, but multi-channel fulfilment fees, Q4 storage costs and channel lock-in make an independent 3PL the stronger option for sellers on Shopify, eBay, Etsy or TikTok Shop as well as Amazon.
Onboarding at Angler Fulfilment starts the day you say yes, and with prepared product data you can take orders within 3 days of your stock arriving. Shopify, Amazon, eBay, Etsy and TikTok Shop integrations are set up for a one-off £150.
